Red Arrow Launches New China Office

11 July 2017

Red Arrow Electrical Distribution has opened a new office in Hangzhou, China, which will help them improve their global supply chain and accelerate growth. This is Red Arrow’s third office with the Head Office in Sheffield, UK and an office near Melbourne, Australia, which operates under the Nedlands Group banner.

The office will be headed by Dave Walker who will be responsible for the Global Supply Chain, including developing cost and quality improvement strategies that leverage the company’s procurement and production platforms. Product compliance will also be handled by the Hangzhou Team’s portfolio.

Dave Walker stated, “Red Arrow has built an industry leading supply chain with an extremely talented team. My role is to continue developing competitive advantages that get high quality products delivered to our customers faster, at an overall lower cost.”

Dave will be a great asset to the Red Arrow Team as he brings to the role more than thirty years of leadership experience in manufacturing and operations management. Before joining Red Arrow, Dave spent more than fifteen years in Asia working at a senior level within supply chain. In recent years this included coordination of the supply chain for IKEA electrical appliances and accessories where he expanded the division’s complete operations, including Product Development, Design, Planning, Purchasing, Quality Control, Compliance and Distribution.

Steve Bricknell, Managing Director of Red Arrow commented “Dave is a results driven professional with significant experience in leading global strategic initiatives, in both South America and South East Asia. We are proud to have him join our team.”

Red Arrow has already seen a positive change in their supply chain since the launch of the China Office and are excited about how this will support business growth by being able to deliver more to customers throughout 2017 and beyond.

Red Arrow Electrical Distribution Appoints New Chief Operating Officer

The Board of Directors at Red Arrow is pleased to announce that Nick Swash has joined the organisation as Chief Operating Officer, effective 1st June 2017. Nick is a seasoned leader and well qualified with the right credentials to take the business forward in a challenging marketplace.

Nick has worked within the industry for 30 years and brings with him a wealth of experience. Nick has a comprehensive background in senior management with particular expertise in organisational transformation, sales growth, business development, effective financial control and stakeholder engagement across these sectors.

Nick has immediately taken responsibility for Sales, Operations, Marketing and Business Strategy. Nick will supplement the existing management team and report directly to the shareholders, who are based in Australia.

Following his appointment Nick commented “I am looking forward to working in a dynamic, fast moving product sector and leading Red Arrow in the next phase of their development.”

Managing Director, Steve Bricknell commented “We have great confidence in Nick’s ability to drive the business forward and focus on operational excellence across all departments of the company”.

Nick’s appointment follows the establishment of a dedicated Red Arrow Office in China and confirms the commitment of the shareholders to ensure Red Arrow is a leader in LED Lighting supply in the UK.

"ROSTY" Completes Epic Challenges

10 May 2017

In the last 12 months one of our Credit Control team, Ian Rostron, better know as "Rosty" embarked on an epic fundraising challenge with one of his good friends Mark and Janine to raise money for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation in memory of Mark's brother "Daz", who sadly passed away from a heart attack in April 2016.

The challenges kicked off last year with the Sheffield 10K and Manchester Half Marathon and more recently in April 2017 Rosty completed the following:

- 7th April - 5km Swim (2h 14m 24s)

- 8th April - 60km Static bike ride (1h 47m 20s)

- 9th April - Yorkshire Half Marathon (2h 12m 52s)

- 30th April - Düsseldorf Marathon (4h 36m)

Rosty completed the first half of the Düsseldorf Marathon in 2 hours 6 minutes and the second half in 2 hours 30 minutes, totalling an impressive finishing time of 4 hours 36 minutes!

Red Arrow are really proud of all of Rosty's training and want to say well done for all of his commitment, hard work and training!

Lighting Industry Assoication - Audit

The Lighting Industry Association is Europe’s largest Trade Association for lighting equipment professionals. This includes lighting manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, wholesalers, designers and all professionals active in the UK lighting market.

Last week the LIA visited our China office to conduct their annual audit and we are delighted to be able to announce that all the employees in our China office have passed the Auditor Programme and the PDI Inspector Programme.

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will report to the Board of Directors.

The COO will have full autonomy and responsibility for managing and developing the company and prospects to achieve outstanding top-line and bottom line results. The role will involve hands on managing all aspects of the business including the operations, offshore procurement, recruitment, the entire sales cycle, customer support activities and financial performance & control.

This individual will have a strong track record of success in well-respected companies and a career characterised by consistent promotions to roles of increasing responsibility.

  • Full management/leadership responsibilities for all business operations, including strategic planning, people and sales management, sourcing and new product development, marketing, budget setting & P&L for meeting financial and sales objectives.
  • Through dynamic leadership manage, motivate and work with existing staff to ensure an enhanced team approach to all activities throughout the business. Continuous improvement is a touchstone for our company
  • Work with customers to improve market share while retaining and improving margin expectations
  • Analysis of company processes and procedures to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, increase margins and streamline working methods.
  • Analysis of operational efficiencies and drive efficiency improvements
  • Monitor and control business unit performance and customer service levels
  • Work with management team to deliver business KPI’s

Requirements

  • Have been a successful Senior Executive with a company with at least 35M in annual turnover.
  • Strong, inspirational leader with the ability to lead, manage and inspire team members effectively.
  • Intelligent individual with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experienced manager in a technical/engineering product environment.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with excellent communication skills, with robust decision making, planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience in the UK electrical and/or lighting industry would be an advantage.

The selected candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications:

● A Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or Business Administration. MBA a plus

● A minimum of 7-10 years Senior Leadership experience with advancing levels of responsibility.

● Knowledge of regulatory requirements and accounting standards necessary to successfully manage a wholesale distribution company.

Skills and Knowledge

The COO will have the following competencies:

  • Strategic Agility – the ability to create competitive and breakthrough strategies and plans to achieve both short-term and long-term strategic objectives. The ability to anticipate future consequences and trends accurately and articulately paint credible pictures of future possibilities in a technology led industry.
  • Drive for Results – the ability to be counted on to exceed goals and expectations on a regular basis and a willingness to steadfastly push self and others for results.
  • Learning on the Fly – the ability to learn quickly when facing new problems, analyse both successes and failures for clues to improvement and rapidly grasp the essence and underlying structure of complex situations.
  • Innovation Management – the ability to manage the creative process of others, project how potential ideas may play out in the marketplace and effectively bring creative ideas of others to the market.

Personal Characteristics:

  • Highly Ethical – demonstrates the highest level of character and unquestionable integrity.
  • Decisive – seeks to build consensus and demonstrates an inclusive management style, but can be decisive when necessary.
  • Self- Confident – demonstrates confidence, but with the maturity and humility.
  • Strong Communicator – excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.

  • Natural Motivator – this role will be central to some of the most important, and most demanding questions facing the company today and into the future.This person must be a seasoned and mature professional, yet at the same time be self-aware and self-deprecating enough to keep the organization focused and positive in the face of occasional obstacles and setbacks.An ability to inspire others, and a sense of humour, will be key to success.

Training Update

16 March 2017

Ian Rostron, Credit Controller at Red Arrow is now counting down to his third fundraising event.

Training is going well so far with runs now hitting the 18 to 20 miles mark, but it is time to step up the training for the rest of March with this being a crucial month.

Ian is aiming to complete four big runs by the end of March to prepare for the three days of activities including a 5km swim on the 7 th April, a 60km static bike ride on the 8th April and the Sheffield Half Marathon on the 9th April. Then there is just three weeks leading up to the final event, The Düsseldorf Marathon.

Sponsorship has now hit £870 and Ian is hoping that that they can hit the £1000 target by the end of April.

Fingers crossed for no injuries and a dry month to help Ian in the final weeks of his training!
